Gov. Jerry Brown signs law to protect child actors

September 28, 2012

On thursday, Gov. Jerry Brown had signed a law to afford greater protections of young actors in Hollywood. Recently revelations had come up about child molesters working in the entertainment industry. I thought this was very important, because I never thought this would happen. Many kids/teens love acting and being in the entertainment industry. But imagine how many had to stop their dreams of acting, just because of what is happening. I chose this specific article, because my best friend is into the entertainment industry and acts, and I would absolutely hate for this to happen to her or even have this stop her from her accomplishing her goals/dreams.
This is an impact on me as a student, because what if my dream was to become an actor? This definitely would stop me from getting to where I would want to go. As a future filmmaker, I would definitely have to keep my eyes open on to who to hire and who not to hire. As a consumer, I'm very shocked about this. If I were a parent, and my child were an actor in the entertainment industry, I wouldn't allow my child to go back and act unless they did something about it. I think this is really horrible. Im glad that now, it requires criminal background checks for managers, publicists, photographers and others with unsupervised access to young performers. But I personally think that they should've done this a long time ago. Questions that come up is, how long has this been going on for? Do you think they should've done this a long time ago? What do you think about this incident?

  1. I agree with you, I don't understand why they weren't doing this before. I don't think any parent would want to take they child back if this incident happened. I hope this new law will truely protect child actors.
