'Taken 2' hijacks No. 1

Thursday, October 4, 2012

"Taken 2" had opened to a strong $50 million, according to an estimate from distributor Twentieth Century Fox. This film made DOUBLE what the first 'Taken' launched. The weekend this film came out, it was supposedly Tim Burton's black and white film "Frankenweenie" competition. The film averaged a Grade of a B+, which is pretty amazing, according to market research firm CinemaScore.

This is important, because there was a huge difference of profit from "Taken", to "Taken 2". It definitely does not surprise me that "Taken 2" made double what the first did, because these were both great movies. I chose this article, because I am personally a huge "Taken" fan. I loved this film after I had seen it for the first time. As I was reading this article, what had caught my eye was when I saw that "Frankenweenie" had received the same grade as "Taken 2". Personally, I thought that "Taken 2" had set a very high standard for action/ thriller movies.

This article impacts me as a student, because I think the film industry is a very competitive field, and if I were to go into the field, it would definitely take a lot of hard work and time. As a future filmmaker, I would like to make great films like these, and hopefully be very successful. It would impact me, because I do not doubt that there will be no competition and I know that I would have to make great, smart choices because you need to be very logical of how you handle and spend your money on films.

As I read this article, questions came up: How much work do you put in, for a film to become this successful? Did people like "Taken 2" better, or "Frankenweenie"?
