'Wreck-It Ralph' scores big

Thursday, November 01, 2012

"Wreck-It Ralph", a bit like "Tron," exists mostly within the games themselves. This film is about a video game villain who is wanting to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives. The 3-D animation antics are colored by an '80s-era arcade look that is retro deluxe, while its antihero's destructive tendencies have him working a very au courant 12-step program. Though the film, it is set in present day, and everything about it evokes the not-too-distant past when a quarter would buy a kid a lot of time on a computer game and the arcade was still considered a cool hangout by the adolescent set. I honestly thought this was cool, how the 3-D animated feature's major asset was its humanity.

I chose this article, because my five year old niece is very into this movie, and just loves 'Wreck-it Ralph'. What caught my eye about this article, was how successful this film came out to be. I believe the director accomplished their goal on how they wanted this to come out. It is definitely a big hit out there that will definitely make a great profit out of it.

This article impacts me as a student, because I got to learn and understand how great films like this, takes a lot of hard work and dedication. As a future filmmaker, this shows me what you have to do in order to get your audience interested in watching, no matter the age. I think the 3-D animations have a lot to do with becoming successful, just because it makes the movie that more interesting, depending on what movie it is.

As I read this article, questions came up. What will be the ratio as to kids to adults to watching this movie? Would kids like to watch this movie in 3-D?

Fourth 'Paranormal' is No. 1

Thursday, October 25, 2012

The fourth 'Paranormal' had claimed No. 1 the weekend it came out. This movie debuted with $30.2 million which was according to an estimate from the studio. The people who saw Paranormal was not as enthusiastic as they wanted to be, giving "Paranormal Activity 4" a C grade. This movie has received the poorest reviews of any of the "Paranormal" films, and it attracted a young audience.

This is important, because many people like horror/ suspense films, but if these films keep coming out to where people are giving them a C grade, then they will start watching other genre films. I chose this article, because I heard a lot about this movie. Many liked this film, but when I read this article, I was surprised. I didn't expect this movie to get low rated reviews. I would have thought this film would be the best of the four, since it was the fourth. This article caught my eye when I started reading about how the "Paranormal" series has appeared to have the potential of a long-running horror franchise like "Saw."

This article impacts me as a student, because if these horror films are becoming worse, I would definitely not want to waste my money on watching these films. As a future filmmaker, this definitely would impact me because if i was into making horror films, it would be much harder for the audience to come and watch my films if the horror films now that are coming out, are not as good and getting a C grade.

Questions that came up as I was reading this article was, Are they really going to continue with the "Paranormal Series" like "Saw" did? Why did this film receive poor reviews?

Paul Walker on the Mend After 'Fast and Furious 6' Mishap

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Paul Walker, a main actor in 'Fast and Furious 6' had recently suffered an ACL injury. The question now is, Will he have to drive an automatic? He has been limping since his ACL injury doing some stunt work on set, but refuses to rest. Walker will not have to drive an automatic, he will just have to be very careful on what he does and how he does it.

This is important to me, because I am certainly a big fan of actor, Paul Walker and the other actors Vin Diesel, and Dwayne Johnson in the 'Fast and Furious'. I chose this specific article, because I always loved these movies. They were always so entertaining, and had amazing action scenes. What caught my eye in this article, was how Paul Walker continued to participate in these stunts and did not back down, no matter how hurt he was. It would have definitely ruined the film if they had to put in another actor to replace him.

This article impacts me as a student, because if they were to put in another actor to replace Paul Walker, I don't think I would have been that interested into watching this movie. Personally, I think it changes the whole movie and it just doesn't go right. As a future filmmaker, I would definitely be very cautious as to who to get for my actors. I would get many backup actors, and possibly some that look like the original actors just incase an incident occurs like what happened to Paul Walker. I think it is very difficult for choosing who you want to act, because you need someone who is willing to help your film become very successful.

As I read this article, questions came up. What would happen if they got a new actor to replace him? Would people be as interested in the movie if it were a new actor?

'Taken 2' hijacks No. 1

Thursday, October 4, 2012

"Taken 2" had opened to a strong $50 million, according to an estimate from distributor Twentieth Century Fox. This film made DOUBLE what the first 'Taken' launched. The weekend this film came out, it was supposedly Tim Burton's black and white film "Frankenweenie" competition. The film averaged a Grade of a B+, which is pretty amazing, according to market research firm CinemaScore.

This is important, because there was a huge difference of profit from "Taken", to "Taken 2". It definitely does not surprise me that "Taken 2" made double what the first did, because these were both great movies. I chose this article, because I am personally a huge "Taken" fan. I loved this film after I had seen it for the first time. As I was reading this article, what had caught my eye was when I saw that "Frankenweenie" had received the same grade as "Taken 2". Personally, I thought that "Taken 2" had set a very high standard for action/ thriller movies.

This article impacts me as a student, because I think the film industry is a very competitive field, and if I were to go into the field, it would definitely take a lot of hard work and time. As a future filmmaker, I would like to make great films like these, and hopefully be very successful. It would impact me, because I do not doubt that there will be no competition and I know that I would have to make great, smart choices because you need to be very logical of how you handle and spend your money on films.

As I read this article, questions came up: How much work do you put in, for a film to become this successful? Did people like "Taken 2" better, or "Frankenweenie"?

Gov. Jerry Brown signs law to protect child actors

September 28, 2012

On thursday, Gov. Jerry Brown had signed a law to afford greater protections of young actors in Hollywood. Recently revelations had come up about child molesters working in the entertainment industry. I thought this was very important, because I never thought this would happen. Many kids/teens love acting and being in the entertainment industry. But imagine how many had to stop their dreams of acting, just because of what is happening. I chose this specific article, because my best friend is into the entertainment industry and acts, and I would absolutely hate for this to happen to her or even have this stop her from her accomplishing her goals/dreams.
This is an impact on me as a student, because what if my dream was to become an actor? This definitely would stop me from getting to where I would want to go. As a future filmmaker, I would definitely have to keep my eyes open on to who to hire and who not to hire. As a consumer, I'm very shocked about this. If I were a parent, and my child were an actor in the entertainment industry, I wouldn't allow my child to go back and act unless they did something about it. I think this is really horrible. Im glad that now, it requires criminal background checks for managers, publicists, photographers and others with unsupervised access to young performers. But I personally think that they should've done this a long time ago. Questions that come up is, how long has this been going on for? Do you think they should've done this a long time ago? What do you think about this incident?

'Hotel Transylvania,' 'Frankenweenie' have monster animation

The films are creature features that bring classic sensibilities to kids. In the case of Tim Burton's stop-motion black-and-white "Frankenweenie," which opens Oct. 5 from Disney, the movie embraces the Universal horror films of yore. Based on his 1984 live-action short film, Burton's "Frankenweenie" revolves around a boy named Victor Frankenstein who uses the power of science to bring his dog Sparky back to life. Producer Allison Abbate said with "Frankenweenie," what they tried to do with it was to "re-create the excitement of Tim and I and the other filmmakers had when we saw those movies". Their hope is that it will spark kids to have a deeper interest in it.
This article is important, because i thought it was cool how  the hope of "Frankenweenie" was to bring those horror films  to a new generation of people. It caught my eye, because i like how this film is in black and white just like an old classic film. The impact of this article on me as a student is great. I love their ideas they put in this film, and how classical it is. As a future filmmaker, it greatly influences me on how unique and interesting your film should be, and how much effort you have to put into it to become successful. Questions that come up is, Will this movie get a lot of viewers? What made the director come up with a film like this??

Finding Nemo, 3-D!

September 13, 2012

“Finding Nemo’s” 3-D re-release was said to go swimmingly at the box office and was expected to debut at No.1. Walt Disney Studios had decided to pull a handful of its most popular animated titles out of the vault for 3-D re-releases a month after “The Lion King 3-D” scored at the box office. Disney expected “Finding Nemo” to ultimately sell more tickets than “Beauty and the Beast," but fewer than “Lion King.” The studio said it spent under $5 million to convert “Finding Nemo” to 3-D, meaning it should be a financial winner for Disney. When Pixar's Animation's "Finding Nemo" was first released nine years ago, it debuted to glowing critical reviews and it had won the Oscar for best animated feature. When 20th Century Fox and Paramount Pictures distributed “Titanic 3-D” in April, the movie did massive global business, raking in nearly $350 million worldwide. I think this article is important, because I thought this was an amazing and smart idea. I didn't think they would actually "re-release" a movie, back in theaters, but in 3-D. This article caught my eye, because i absolutely love Finding Nemo, but didnt get to watch it in 3-D. I think it gives out a much different perspective when its in 3-D, not just this movie, but any other movie.
There is an impact of this article on me as a student, a future filmmaker, and a consumer, because as a student i would definitely go out to watch these re-releases in theaters in 3-D. As a future filmmaker, I would keep this in mind by re-releasing a movie in theaters because I think it's a very smart way to make good business.
A question that came up was, What movie is next in line for a re-releasing in 3-D???

The Oogiloves sing, dance- and flop...

September 6, 2012

'The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure,' which cost $60 million to make, was on track to take in only $6 million in its first weekend.
The idea was to create a two-way entertainment experience, which Viselman believed that it had been lacking in the children's space. He said he was inspired to create "Oogieloves" after seeing a Tyler Perry movie in a theater, where people got into it and talked back to the screen. "Oogieloves" is a culmination of a dream that began with Teletubbies, whose British licensors Viselman could not persuade to make a feature film. The hook of "Oogieloves" was that it encouraged children to get up and dance while some of the songs played. I thought it was kind of odd how he came up with this toddler movie, because he has no kids. Viselman had mentioned that, "Pixar always had the triumph of good over evil." He had said "Why did there have to be evil in the first place?" Which brought him to the direction of the "Oogieloves".
I think this article is important, because it shows how directors come up with their ideas for different kinds of movies. This article caught my eye, because my five yr old niece really wanted to watch this movie, but we all thought this movie just looked ridiculous just by how it looked, and what the characters looked like. There is an impact of this article on me as a student, because the ideas that some directors come up with are crazy. As a toddler in the mid 90's, they weren't coming up with these kinds of movies, they were coming up with like "The Little Rascals", "The Lion King", etc. As a future filmmaker, this impacts me, because it sets a pretty good expectation on toddler movies, but just not as high as the Pixar and Dreamworks films. Some questions I came up with is, Did the toddlers really like this movie? How long did it take for Viselman to come up with this whole film?

Jersey Shore, no more...

After six long seasons, Jersey shore is no more. The last ever episode of Jersey Shore will be aired on October 4th. There has not been any further information as to why they are going to cancel this show, but I am very glad that they are doing so! This show to me now, is very pointless, and I think it's a good idea that they're canceling this show, but despite the cancelation of this show, a few of the cast are starting to work on separate shows such as Snooki & JWOWW and The Pauly D Project
This article caught my eye, because I used to watch this show a couple years ago and wondered how it changed from when I used to watch it, to now. There really is no impact on this article on me as a student, and there is certainly no impact on me on this as a future filmmaker. If I were a filmmaker, I definitely would not have made this media with these kinds of plots with no actually meaning to it. But as a consumer, I would actually care about the cancelation of this realty show.
Many questions come up as to why did they even start this reality tv show? How did they come up with this? and how did these characters in the show, become famous so fast?

Ike Perlmutter holds the reins of superheroes at Marvel

Aug. 23, 2012
2nd Blog

Ike Perlmutter, the CEO of Marvel Entertainment, became one of the largest Shareholders in Walt Disney when Disney had purchased the comic book publisher in the year 2009. "The Avengers" was Disney's biggest hit of the year. It brought in $1.5 billion in worldwide box office revenues. "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger," together brought in more than $800 million globally. This is important, because all these movies interests me and I thought they were all well written, with excitement plus suspense. "Iron Man 3" is eventually starting in May. It is followed by the new sequels to "Thor," "Captain America," and "The Avengers, which is also going to be a very big hit worldwide. The impact of this article on me as a student is that these all have incredible characters and compelling stories which people can connect to. Most people can actually relate to it as well. My question is, how did they come up with so many different kinds of superheroes? What was going through their head when they came up with these great ideas and movies?

Internship Lawsuit

August 16, 2012

1st Blog
Many people join the internship programs mainly because they want to get a feel around the career course. Really, these internship programs are meant to be an educational experience and usually people who get these internships are very lucky. I feel that they shouldn't be treated as less than what they do, just because they're an intern. An intern is only for the experience, a learning experience.

This article caught my eye, because I didn't think this was fair. An intern may not have the most work, but they should at least be treated respectfully and fairly. They should get paid with what the law required to pay them for their work. Another thing that caught my attention was at the fact that this media giant had taken advantage of their interns and just treated them bad.
This was a major impact on me as a student, because sooner or later you will become an intern and I wouldn't want this mistreatment done to me. If people are willing to put in a lot of time and effort, then they should at least be paid for their work, and not get cheated for it.
This article began rising questions, such as: Are all other companies the same? Is this a problem in only one company? How long has this been going on for? Have they made any changes so far?
